General
What is bathtub refinishing, and how is it different from reglazing?
Refinishing, reglazing and resurfacing commonly describe restoring an existing fixture with a new surface coating. The work includes preparation and any suitable repairs before the finish is applied; it is more than painting over a worn tub.
Is bathtub refinishing worth it, or should I replace my tub?
Refinishing is an option when the tub is structurally sound but looks worn. Replacement may be more appropriate for structural failure, unresolved leaks or a different layout. An assessment helps separate surface damage from problems a new coating cannot fix.
How does professional refinishing compare with a DIY kit?
Professional refinishing combines specialist preparation, application equipment and ventilation. A DIY kit requires you to manage those steps and follow its product instructions. Compare the total work, expected finish and support, not just the price of the kit.
What is the difference between refinishing and a bathtub liner?
Refinishing adds a coating to the existing surface. A liner is a separate shell fitted over the tub. The condition of the original fixture and the installation requirements matter when choosing between them.
Can porcelain, cast iron, fiberglass and acrylic tubs be refinished?
Many tubs made from these materials can be refinished, but condition matters. Tell us the material, damage and coating history when requesting an assessment. Preparation must suit the surface.
Can Bath Tub Man refinish sinks and bathroom tile too?
Yes. Bath Tub Man also restores sinks and tile. Include each fixture or tiled area when requesting a quote so the proposed work is clear.
Pricing & Quotes
How much does bathtub refinishing cost in Jacksonville, FL?
Bath Tub Man’s published typical range is $300–$650. This is a guide, not a fixed quote. Material, damage and previous coatings affect the price. See our cost and process guide.
Does stripping a previously refinished tub cost extra?
Removing an existing coating adds preparation work and can increase the price. Tell us if the tub was reglazed before, especially if it is peeling. Request a quote that identifies the stripping and repair work included.
What should I check in a bathtub refinishing quote?
Check which surfaces are included, the preparation and repairs, any old-coating removal, and the final price. Ask separately about caulking, plumbing fixtures, color options, return-to-use instructions and warranty terms.
Can I send photos to help with my estimate?
Photos can help explain the condition and scope. Contact us to arrange how to share them. Include a full view and close-ups of damage; some issues may still need an on-site assessment.
Process & Timing
How long does a bathtub refinishing appointment take?
Most bathtub reglazing appointments take approximately 2–4 hours, including preparation and application of the new finish. After the work is complete, wait a full 24 hours before using the bathtub. Follow the technician’s instructions for your job.
How soon can I use my bathtub after reglazing?
Bath Tub Man says the fixture can usually be used again after 24 hours. Follow the technician’s instructions for your job; feeling dry does not mean the tub is ready for water.
Does Jacksonville’s humidity affect the drying time?
Humidity and ventilation can affect the wait before use. Allow extra time if your technician advises it. The published 24-hour guideline is not a reason to ignore job-specific instructions.
How long can a refinished bathtub last?
Our cost and process guide describes a possible 10–15-year lifespan with appropriate care. Actual results vary, and this is not a lifespan guarantee or an extension of the warranty.
Preparation
How should I prepare my bathroom for refinishing?
Clear toiletries, towels, rugs and other loose belongings from the work area, and keep access clear. Ask about shower doors and nearby fixtures before removing anything. Report leaks and other renovation work when booking.
Do I need to fix a dripping faucet or replace the drain first?
Arrange to fix dripping faucets before refinishing. If you plan to replace a drain, overflow cover or other fixture, coordinate the order of work with the refinisher and plumber before the appointment.
Should refinishing happen before or after a bathroom remodel?
Coordinate the sequence before booking. Dusty work and work that could drop debris onto the tub should generally be completed first. Tell each contractor about the refinishing schedule so the new surface can be protected.
How do you protect the rest of my bathroom from overspray?
Bath Tub Man uses masking materials and drop cloths around the work area to protect surrounding surfaces. Clear personal items beforehand so the technician can prepare the room.
Will I need to leave home, and what about children or pets?
Ask for the ventilation and occupancy instructions for your job before booking, including when people and pets can return. Keep them out of the work area. Smell alone is not a reliable way to decide when it is appropriate to re-enter.
Repairs & Problems
Can chips, scratches and rust be repaired before refinishing?
Bath Tub Man repairs chips, scratches and rust. Whether a particular area can be restored depends on the extent of damage. Share close-ups when discussing the work.
Can an already-reglazed bathtub be refinished again?
Repeat refinishing may be possible after the existing finish and underlying surface are assessed. Failing coatings need appropriate removal and preparation, rather than simply being covered with another coat.
Why is my refinished bathtub peeling or bubbling?
Peeling or bubbles can have several causes, including adhesion problems, moisture or damage. A photo alone may not establish the cause. Contact the refinisher for an assessment before scraping, sanding or applying a repair product.
Why does the new finish feel rough, or have dust trapped in it?
Ask the refinisher to inspect rough areas or debris in the finish. Do not pick, sand or polish the surface yourself, especially while it is curing. The appropriate remedy depends on what caused the texture.
Why is my reglazed bathtub turning yellow or losing its shine?
Discoloration or dullness can involve deposits, product exposure or coating deterioration. Tell the refinisher when the change appeared and what cleaners were used. Avoid trying progressively stronger chemicals before the cause is assessed.
What should I do if I accidentally chip the new finish?
Contact the refinisher promptly with a photo and a description of the damage. Avoid picking at the edges or using a DIY touch-up product before receiving advice. Ask whether a local repair is suitable and whether charges apply.
Colors & Finishes
Can I change my bathtub’s color or match my sink and tile?
Color changes are possible in refinishing, but available colors and matching options vary. Ask Bath Tub Man to confirm the finish and any additional cost for your project before booking.
Will a refinished bathtub look painted, and will repairs show?
A professionally applied finish aims for an even appearance. The final result depends on the surface and the extent of repairs. Discuss visible defects beforehand and review examples in our gallery.
Can you add a slip-resistant finish to the tub?
Ask Bath Tub Man whether a compatible slip-resistant option is available for your tub. Confirm the texture, care requirements and price before scheduling. Do not assume it is included in standard refinishing.
Cleaning & Care
How should I clean my refinished bathtub?
Use a soft cloth or sponge and a non-abrasive cleaner approved for your coating. Rinse away residue. Follow the care instructions supplied for your job rather than advice meant for an uncoated porcelain tub.
Can I use bleach, a Magic Eraser or abrasive scrubbing pads?
Avoid bleach-based cleaners and abrasive pads on the refinished surface unless your coating-specific instructions explicitly allow them. A Magic Eraser is abrasive too. Ask for an approved cleaner instead of testing a stronger product.
How can I remove hard-water stains and soap scum?
Start with the approved cleaner and a soft sponge. If deposits remain, ask the refinisher which descaling method is compatible with the coating. Do not assume vinegar, acids or aggressive scrubbing are suitable.
Can I use a suction-cup bath mat?
Check the care instructions before using a suction-cup mat. Suction and trapped moisture can affect a refinished surface. Ask about a compatible alternative and avoid leaving a mat on the tub permanently.
Can I use bath bombs or hair dye in a refinished bathtub?
Check compatibility first. Dyes and some bath products can leave stains or affect finishes. Ask the refinisher about the specific product; do not assume a product suitable for an original tub surface suits a new coating.
Can shampoo bottles and soap stay on the edge of the tub?
Use a shelf or suitable caddy rather than leaving bottles and soap in prolonged contact with the finish. Rinse off spills so product residue does not remain on the surface.
Can drain cleaners damage the refinished surface?
Drain-cleaning chemicals can damage finishes if they contact the surface. Consult a plumber and the refinisher about a suitable way to clear a blockage, and follow product instructions. Do not leave spilled cleaner on the tub.
Warranty
What warranty does Bath Tub Man offer?
Residential customers receive a one-year warranty. Rental, Airbnb and vacation properties receive 90 days. Ask for the terms that apply to your job; coverage depends on the service and the concern.
How do I report a problem with the work?
Call 904-744-3999 and explain what happened, when you noticed it and the service date. Have photos ready. The team can review the concern and explain the next step and applicable coverage.
